WE PETITION THE CANADIAN GOVERNMENT TO AMEND THE CRIMINAL
CODE TO EXPLICITLY MAKE SUICIDE BOMBING A TERRORIST ACTIVITY,
AND TO LEAD THE WORLD TO SAY SUICIDE BOMBING IS
A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY AND TO PROSECUTE ITS ORGANIZERS
Suicide bombers murder ordinary people where they worship, work and play. They kill in homes, schools, buses and other public places. Their victims are of many races, colours and religions including Christians, Hindus, Jews, Buddhists and Muslims. Suicide bombers target the innocent around the world. They struck in Afghanistan, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, London, Morocco, Pakistan, the Philippines, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Tunisia, Turkey and the United States, and the list grows longer.
Canadians believe in the sanctity of life. Our constitution enshrines our commitment to “Peace, Order and Good Government”. Our religious leaders, who represent all the world’s major faiths, say that God’s will, however we identify it, must never be used to incite violence or justify terrorism.
The believers in suicide bombing teach children it is their sacred duty to commit suicide and laud the young as martyrs when they kill innocent civilians for their cause. Faith and community leaders who say there is no cause that justifies suicide bombing against civilians must be supported by us all.
We cannot remain silent. The murder of innocent civilians must be stopped.
